Haute couture, high-end custom-made clothing created by designers to meet client orders, originated in Paris in the late 19th century. It began with the British-born designer Charles Frederick Worth, who laid the foundation for haute couture by adopting bi-annual fashion model collections, taking orders for custom-made high-fashion clothing designed by him, and sewing designer-signed tags into the garments.
This exhibition is a re-curation of an exhibition held at the Paris City Hall in 2013, supervised by Olivier Saillard, director of the Palais Galliera, Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris. It showcases the history of Parisian haute couture from the late 19th century to the present day through approximately 130 pieces, including dresses.

The exhibition features a range of pieces, including Paul Poiret perfume bottles, dresses by Madeleine Vionnet and Lanvin, and evening gloves by Elsa Schiaparelli. It also highlights significant works in the history of haute couture, such as Pierre Cardin's art-adorned dresses, Paco Rabanne's mini dresses, and Balenciaga's evening dresses.
Furthermore, the exhibition includes contemporary haute couture, such as Christian Dior evening dresses by Raf Simons, who continues to innovate the house, and Chanel coat dresses by Karl Lagerfeld.
