Powerful photojournalism and images from Venice displayed side-by-side
Born in Italy in 1971, Alex Majoli began his career in photojournalism in his teens and joined Magnum Photos in 1996. He has since undertaken extensive reporting in conflict zones, South America, and Africa. This year, he won first prize in the General News category at the World Press Photo awards for his photograph of people chanting protests after Mubarak's speech denying resignation during the "Arab Spring." He is active on a global scale.
This exhibition is part of a joint project between Leica and Magnum Photos, initiated last spring. The exhibition will feature works created for Leica's latest M-system catalog, set in the "City of Canals," Venice, captured with the professional M-system digital camera "Leica M9-P," alongside 14 color and monochrome works selected by Majoli from his photojournalism portfolio.
The exhibition presents a unique combination of powerful photojournalism and distinctive images captured in the beautiful setting of Venice. Beyond Majoli's sensibility and skill, the exhibition offers a profound experience of the power and depth inherent in photography.
