How Did the Architectural Masterpiece Come to Be?
The Fondation Louis Vuitton, described as "a magnificent glass cloud, a symbol of France's deep cultural mission," was unveiled last year, featuring transparent glass panels assembled in a seemingly random fashion. The visionary building was designed by Frank Gehry, a titan of architecture and winner of the Pritzker Prize in 1989. This monumental architectural project is now presented in Japan, following exhibitions in Paris and Beijing.
The exhibition is organized into six themes, including "Integration into the Site" and "The Glass Sails." In addition to early sketches, models created during the project's development are also on display. An installation space unfolds, merging the glass-enclosed ESPACE LOUIS VUITTON TOKYO with the cityscape visible beyond.
The exhibition also features footage captured by drone and showcases the artistic initiatives undertaken by the Fondation Louis Vuitton since its opening.
This is a rare opportunity to explore Frank Gehry's talent and ideas from multiple perspectives, understanding how this beautiful and innovative museum was brought to life. We recommend visiting in conjunction with the exhibition "Architect Frank Gehry: "I Have an Idea," currently on view at 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT in Roppongi.Architect Frank Gehry: "I Have an Idea"
