The First Exhibition from “TYP,” a Project Exploring the Essence of Typography
“TYP” began as a project in 2012, spearheaded by Yoshichika Ishibashi and Makoto Kamimura, serving as a platform for contemplation, experimentation, and presentation of typography. This project embraces not only typography’s inherent purpose of readability but also its more unconventional forms that attempt to convey sensibility and intuition.
By focusing on works unbound by contemporary thought and values, they seek to discover new possibilities. They are convinced that the rare, acclaimed accidental products born from this process are the standards/types for the modern era.
The inaugural exhibition, “TYP Exhibition. 01,” showcases the latest works by five typographers: Yoshichika Ishibashi, Makoto Kamimura, Haruhiko Taniuchi, Hideki Saijo, and Ryo Sugi. In collaboration with multiple printing companies, and employing techniques such as foil stamping, screen printing, and offset printing, the exhibition brings together works that emphasize expressions only truly conveyed through in-person viewing.
