Marunouchi House: A Hub for Diverse Information

'the MOTHER of DESIGN' is an annual exhibition series hosted by Marunouchi House, inviting prominent creators. This year marks the 8th iteration, centered around the theme 'Considering the Environment Through Design.' The featured artist for this edition is Tomoo Gokita, who is active not only in Japan but also in New York and Los Angeles.

Marunouchi House, with its concept of a 'community restaurant,' serves as a 'guest house for the city' within the Marunouchi area. Known for its unique restaurant floor, it fosters significant interaction among visitors, focusing on four themes: fashion, music, art, and food.

Featuring Rare Sculptures

This exhibition showcases popular works by Gokita, including new monochrome portraits and geometric paintings. It also features his first large-scale balloon installation and rare sculptures, which have seldom been exhibited in Japan. The exhibition is curated to offer a glimpse into Gokita's multifaceted artistic identity beyond his role as a painter.

Additionally, a special edition of the jacket for Towa Tei's new album 'CUTE,' featuring original drawings by Gokita, will be available for exhibition and sale.

Tomoo Gokita
Born in Tokyo in 1969 and based there, Tomoo Gokita gained attention in the late 1990s for his spontaneously drawn works. In recent years, he has primarily presented monochrome portraits and geometric paintings as an artist and painter. He has also collaborated with sculptors to produce bronze and FRP multi-part sculptures based on his drawings.
