Creators dedicated to sincere craftsmanship featured
"The World of Kinki Dye Colors" showcases works by Kazuhiko Oshikura (Dyer), Shiho Ueda (Artist), Hiroshi Fujii (Dyer, Fukuhiro Dyeing), and koha* (Creator), all based in the Kinki region, who meticulously craft unique textiles with a focus on dyeing and color expression. In addition to their original items, they have collectively produced accent furniture to enhance interior tea boxes.
Originally used for transporting and storing tea, tea boxes have recently gained popularity as interior pieces. These "interior tea boxes" combine modernity and originality, finished with textiles created by the four artists.
Items beyond interior tea boxes also exhibited and sold
Kazuhiko Oshikura, a dyer from Kyoto who has collaborated with leading fashion brands in Japan, expresses a world of colors capturing the rich nature and cosmos of his hometown Tango through dynamic dyeing techniques. He proposes "interior tea boxes" adorned with his original textiles as storage solutions for studies and desks. Cushion covers, apparel, and furniture will also be exhibited and sold.
Shiho Ueda, an artist active both domestically and internationally, creates shifting scenes and fragmented overlapping images based on the temperature and sensations evoked by color itself, under the theme of "What Color Does." At the venue, in addition to "interior tea boxes" designed as treasure chests for women's cherished items, stoles in a rich variety of colors will be showcased. Her world, created while living in the mountainous regions of Hyogo Prefecture and feeling the pulse of nature, can be fully appreciated.
Hiroshi Fujii, a dyer at Fukuhiro Dyeing, inherits the techniques of traditional Kyo-Yuzen dyeing. His elegant and ornate patterns are highly acclaimed for enhancing the beauty of Japanese women and are known to be favored by the Imperial family. This exhibition features "interior tea boxes" and cushions made with Kyo-Yuzen, as well as versions created with blankets from “Tomihiro Senko x Roros Tweed.”
Works by koha*, a creator who disseminates Kyoto's maiden culture, will also be presented, featuring original patterns that combine Japanese seasonal plants with Western aesthetic styles. In addition to "interior tea boxes," items such as cushion covers, bags, and pouches made from patchwork-pieced scraps generated during the creation process will be introduced. The beautiful textiles produced using printing techniques are a must-see.
