K-NARF Handcrafts Limited Edition Boxes One by One
K-NARF is an artist who indulges in playful imitation, much like a child playing pretend as a police officer or firefighter. His style is characterized by a nostalgic and whimsical approach, reimagining vintage photographs using packing tape, portable mini inkjet printers, and everyday items and office supplies purchased from 100-yen shops. He aims to create a photographic world of "neo-vintage" by combining analog and digital elements.
For this collaboration with PIERRE HERMÉ PARIS, K-NARF has created "imaginary" advertising posters and short films related to chocolate. All works are handmade in his small atelier in Nakameguro and will be exhibited in the shop windows of PIERRE HERMÉ PARIS Aoyama, Isetan Shinjuku, and Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi. A screening of "Bricolage Photography," a film showcasing the creation process, will also be held at the venue.
Furthermore, as "collectible art," a special box of bonbons chocolates, limited to 100 pieces, will be available. Each box is handcrafted by K-NARF, and by peeling off the tape on top, you can create your own K-NARF artwork called "FILM-O-TAPE."
An outdoor screening event will also be held on Saturday, October 24th, featuring a handmade projector installed on Yamaha Motor's "TRICITY," a scooter with two front wheels. For this film project, K-NARF created a projector inspired by old-fashioned outdoor cinemas, resulting in a sculptural piece worthy of being called a "mechanical camera."
"I wanted to create something playful that wouldn't be immediately obvious what it is," says K-NARF. His first step was to dismantle the scooter. After removing unnecessary parts, he reassembled it to create his own unique projector. "It's incredibly fun to do different things for each project and become a different person. For this one, I took on various roles – inventor, engineer, photographer, electrician, mechanic – to bring this unique sculpture to life."
At the screening, guests can enjoy chocolates and chocolat chaud while watching a short film documenting the projector's creation process and a making-of feature with K-NARF himself.
