An art salon for adults, "Food and Art Salon," is held at "Restaurant-I," a restaurant run by French chef Keisuke Matsushima. For the 14th installment, photographer Bungo Kimura has been invited to discuss the theme of "food."

Photographer Bungo Kimura discusses the current state of the food environment

It goes without saying that 2011 was an unforgettable year for us. TheGreat East Japan Earthquakethat occurred on March 11th took away people's ordinary lives and precious lives, and dealt a major blow to all industries. In particular, the heightened sense of crisis regarding "food" has left producers in a difficult situation even now.

The theme for the first "Food and Art Salon" of 2012 is "food." In addition to showcasing the works of photographer Bungo Kimura, who has been photographing food and its producers throughout his career, a talk session will be held between Mr. Matsushima and Mr. Kimura. On the day, a special menu will be prepared using ingredients produced by the producers featured in the exhibited photographs.

By experiencing "food" and "art" before your eyes, you can discover a world beyond the dish—Beyond the dish. The concept is to provide an opportunity to think about the existence of producers who support food and about agriculture. This 14th "Food and Art Salon" was made possible by "Restaurant I," which has championed the theme of local production for local consumption since its opening. It seems to be a good opportunity to take a step forward from the days of escalating anxiety due to the confusion of all sorts of information, including reputational damage, and to re-examine and think about the current state of "food."

What is the "Food and Art Salon"?
The "Food and Art Salon" is an art salon for intellectually curious adults, organized by the +ART Club, initiated by French chef Keisuke Matsushima of "Restaurant I." The aim is to discover and enjoy new possibilities that arise from adding art to daily life (+ ART). It is an event where participants can savor the Michelin one-star-winning flavors of the renowned restaurant, which has maintained its star for five consecutive years, while enjoying the art and talks presented.
