Each Introduces Two Books

"Book Shorts" is a project that calls for submissions of short stories online and turns them into short films or radio programs. "Page by Page" is a popular series where Hiroshi Eguchi and Munetaka Haba, who have pioneered new ways and places to connect people with books, introduce two books each week based on a given theme.

It began in 2009 as a program on the FM radio station J-WAVE and is currently serialized on the website of publisher Little More. A book publication is also planned for the near future.

On the day of the talk event, the two will introduce two books each based on the same theme as the short stories currently being solicited for "Book Shorts": "novels based on fairy tales, folk tales, myths, or other stories." The content of the talks is scheduled to be published later on the websites of "Page by Page" and "Book Shorts."

Literary Award Seeking Short Film Connections

"Book Shorts" is currently accepting submissions for short stories (1,000 to 10,000 characters) based on fairy tales, folk tales, novels, and other narratives, under the concept of "Re-Story," in four phases until the end of March 2015. Outstanding works will be selected from the submissions in each phase and published on the Book Shorts website.

The Grand Prize winner (Book Shorts Award) will be honored at SSFF & ASIA in June 2015, with plans for the winning work to be adapted into a short film and radio program.

Submissions are being accepted via the official website, which also features an interview with Kanae Minato, a novelist who served as a judge for SSFF & ASIA 2014. For more details, please check the "Book Shorts" HP below.
