Hozumi Nakadaira and DUG Exhibition
JAZZ BAR "DUG," located "behind Kinokuniya Bookstore," is featured in Haruki Murakami's bestseller "Norwegian Wood."
The photography exhibition "Hozumi Nakadaira and DUG," centered on "DUG," a legendary jazz café that symbolized its era in Japan, will be held at Kagurazaka artdish starting Wednesday, June 17.

A Message from Hozumi Nakadaira
"Looking back, I began photographing jazz musicians in 1961, the most avant-garde and exciting year in jazz history, and feel fortunate to have experienced jazz. With gratitude to the jazz musicians, this exhibition at artdish will showcase my best selections."
Hozumi Nakadaira
Born in Hongū Town, Wakayama Prefecture in 1936.
Graduated from the Photography Department of Nihon University College of Art after attending Shingu High School in Wakayama Prefecture.
Photographed Art Blakey's first visit to Japan in 1961, covering the jazz scenes in New York and Europe.
Opened the jazz café "DIG" in Shinjuku in 1962, and the JAZZ BAR "DUG" behind Shinjuku Kinokuniya in 1967.
Has been active as a key figure in Japanese jazz culture to this day.
His major photo collections include "JAZZ GIANTS 1961-2002" and "Shinjuku DIG DUG Monogatari: Hozumi Nakadaira Dokuhon" (edited by Tetsuro Takahira).
