AFRICAN MARKET CAFE2009 Opens in Ebisu, Tokyo
Support Africa While Enjoying Yourself
AFRICAN MARKET CAFE 2009 Opens in Ebisu, Tokyo
From May 22 (Fri) to June 7 (Sun), the "African Market Café" will be held for a limited time at "Time Out Café & Diner," which opened in April on the second floor of Ebisu Liquidroom.
An African market will be set up next to the cafe, where you can purchase African accessories, fabrics, and art that are rarely available.
Featuring Tuareg Silver Jewelry
Necklaces, rings, and bracelets – all exuding a sophisticated style distinct from other African accessories. These "Tuareg" accessories are incredibly popular among adult women.
Their unisex design also appeals to stylish men, and the fact that each piece is handmade, with no two designs exactly alike, is a major draw.
At this "African Market Café," in addition to the popular Tuareg silver accessories, you'll find Masai beadwork, soapstone and banana fiber items from Kenya, earrings made from cow bone, batik fabrics and lace from Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire, mud-dyed textiles from Mali, Kente cloth, and a wide array of other African accessories and fabrics.
For those who wish to create their own original accessories, we also offer old beads, amber resin, glass beads, and vintage parts.

A portion of proceeds supports children in Malawi through the African JAG Project
The venue will also showcase and sell works by artists from Kenya, South Africa, Mozambique, and others, including pieces by Rufus Ogundele, Afolabi, and Twins 77, representatives of the Oshogbo school in Nigeria – one of Africa's three major art movements, previously featured at the Setagaya Art Museum's "African Art Exhibition."
A portion of the proceeds from purchases made during this event will be used for emergency and self-reliance support for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS in the Republic of Malawi, located in southeastern Africa, through the African JAG Project.
Letting yourself drift in the slow passage of time at Time Out Café & Diner, a cup of tea surrounded by Africa's gentle sunlight, colors, and music will be a balm for your weary soul.
