Ryuichi Sakamoto Piano Tour Diary | A Snapshot from April 9, 2009
Day 23 of the Tour | A Snapshot from April 9, 2009
April, a time for wistful reflection as the cherry blossoms fade. Here’s a glimpse into Ryuichi Sakamoto’s first Japan piano tour in four years, which began with a performance in Tokyo on March 18 and concludes with the final show at Hitomi Memorial Hall in Setagaya, Tokyo, on April 29.
Ryuichi Sakamoto Playing the Piano 2009
Concert at Tajimi City Cultural Hall on Thursday, April 9
Text by Rurihiko Hara

Ryuichi Sakamoto Playing The Piano 2009,
today we’ve arrived in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture.
The venue is the Tajimi City Cultural Hall. Ten audience members who brought their copies of “out of noise” joined us for the public rehearsal today.
The atmosphere is a little different from the main performance. It’s a precious moment, isn’t it?
Now, the concert began, as always, with “glacier” from the album “out of noise.”
It’s a truly beautiful sound. The Professor’s very own Arctic soundscape.
I feel immense happiness simply being able to immerse myself in such sounds.
Paired with subtle visuals and lighting, it creates a profoundly rich time and space.
Around the midpoint of the piece, Karen H. Fylkeson’s Greenlandic narration began. This voice, too, is filled with an indescribable melancholy.
Today, “Perspective” was performed for the first time!
The Gifu concert, with its superb setlist, was another magnificent performance where the Professor’s piano resonated brilliantly.
