47 Books Yataro Matsuura, Editor-in-Chief of "Kurashi no Techo," Calls "My Teachers"
The second installment of the workshop series by Lexus and OPENERS was held on Tuesday, March 18th, at "INTERSECT BY LEXUS" in Aoyama, Tokyo. Guests included interior stylist Fumiko Sakuhara, who is active in a wide range of fields including magazines, advertisements, and TV commercials, and Yataro Matsuura, editor-in-chief of "Kurashi no Techo." In the 2F lounge, where Sakuhara was in charge of the display, Matsuura was welcomed to discuss a rich life that begins with choosing objects.
During this workshop, not only a talk session but also a live display by Sakuhara was held. Using a corner of the bookshelf that surrounds the space, she demonstrated how to use books themselves as interior decor. The items used were all ordinary objects from daily life, such as tin boxes, water pitchers, baseballs, and stones. She quickly arranged them, lined up the books, and in an instant, transformed the space into one with rich expression. It was a valuable opportunity to glimpse Sakuhara's usual work style.
And the books used in the live display were, in fact, all Matsuura's personal belongings. When asked to select books suitable for spring, a season that hints at new beginnings, he lent us many books that he described as "my teachers." The "Yataro Matsuura's Bookshelf," curated by Sakuhara, will be on display for a limited time until Wednesday, April 2nd, in the second-floor lounge of "INTERSECT BY LEXUS." What kind of books are lined up on the bookshelf? We invite you to enjoy the exquisite cuisine prepared by food director Daichi Tajima and take a close look at the 47 books that have guided Yataro Matsuura.
