Beauty Born from the "Interference" of Diverse Experts
Noism1 was established in April 2004 when Ryutopia Niigata City Performing Arts Center appointed Jo Kanemori as its Artistic Director for Dance. Their works, underpinned by professional physicality and sharp critical awareness, have garnered high acclaim and have been performed not only in Japan but also internationally.
"PLAY 2 PLAY - Interfering Dimensions," to be performed this time, was created in 2007 as a collaboration among leading figures from various fields, including stage arts, architecture, music, and fashion, each exploring their unique expertise. Its high level of artistic achievement has earned it praise as a work that deeply appeals to the senses, transcending the genre of dance. This legendary production is now being revived in a revised edition after a six-year hiatus.
For this production, Artistic Director Jo Kanemori, who also handles the direction and choreography, will appear on the Noism1 stage for the first time in two and a half years. Architect Tsuyoshi Tane is responsible for the spatial design, and the music is by Vietnamese-French composer Ton That An. Furthermore, the costumes are by Yasuhiro Mihara, a designer who has presented works at Paris Fashion Week, and Noriko Dohmoto, who has created numerous stage costumes, bringing together a stellar cast of collaborators. The music and costumes have been revised, and the performance will feature new members.
The dance, which pushes the beauty of the human body to its limits, creates a mesmerizing passage of time. Through the "interference" of collaborators proposing constraints and experiments, a mysterious and tense space is born. We invite you to experience this overwhelming beauty firsthand at the theatre.
