TGB Design Presents: "PLANET DOLL EXHIBITION"
Spirits of Modern Society, Reimagined as Icons
The exhibition『PLANET DOLL EXHIBITION』, featuring 20 handmade, three-dimensional dolls that playfully interpret "spirits" as inhabitants of the modern world, is currently on display at LIGHT BOX STUDIO AOYAMA in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, until Sunday, November 6th. The dolls are the creation of graphic design collective TGB design.

A Collaboration with more trees!
TGB design. was formed in 1994 by three art directors: ISHIURA, ICHIFURU, and KOMIYAMA. The unit has since been active across a wide range of fields, including art direction for LEGO audio components, product design for mobile phones, and providing graphics for BEAMS and MUJI. This marks their first solo exhibition in 14 years.
The Planet Dolls, embodying TGB design.'s contemporary interpretation of the timeless concept that "spirits reside in all things," are handcrafted from materials such as discarded fallen trees, thinned timber, and fabric scraps. Combining a primitive concept with artistic merit, these one-of-a-kind art pieces have garnered significant popularity.
This exhibition also features a collaboration with more trees, a forest conservation organization headed by Ryuichi Sakamoto. more trees provides the thinned timber used as the base for the Planet Dolls, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to forestation efforts through more trees. Furthermore, in an effort to imbue the Planet Dolls—modern spirits embodying innocence and creativity—with vitality, collaborative creations are being made with individuals with intellectual disabilities who attend vocational support facilities across the country.
Beyond the Planet Dolls, this exhibition also showcases moss, tree stumps, and hanging scrolls. This is a rare opportunity to see 20 of these fluffy, captivating modern spirits, all gathered in one place, ready to capture our hearts.
