What Do 12 Photographers Have to Say Within Frames of Thinned Wood?
As part of the partnership initiatives for COP10 (the 10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity), scheduled to commence this autumn on October 11th (holiday), the forest conservation group more trees, founded by Ryuichi Sakamoto, is hosting the charity photo exhibition "TOUCH WOOD" at Rose Patio on the 5th floor of JR Nagoya Takashimaya.
This charity photo exhibition is part of a project launched in 2009 by more trees, aimed at promoting the utilization of thinned wood.
The exhibition showcases and sells works by 12 photographers, all supporters of more trees and active at the forefront of advertising and art. These photographs are presented in frames made from thinned wood, with 20 to 40 percent of the proceeds from sales being donated to more trees' domestic and international forestation activities.
The first exhibition was held last September at Shibuya Parco Part 1, followed by showings at Hakata Riverain/Iniminimom and Restaurant-I in Tokyo's Harajuku. This marks the fourth iteration.
At the current venue, JR Nagoya Takashimaya, the photo exhibition is on the 5th floor, while more trees' original products are available on the 4th floor.
Items such as the popular cuckoo clock designed by Naoto Fukasawa, which has been a hit since last year, are being sold in Nagoya for the first time,
drawing considerable attention.
On the same floor, approximately 30 brands are offering JR Nagoya Takashimaya original T-shirts and goods, each designed with a message of environmental conservation and themed around "animals," "plants," or "love."
Five percent of the sales from these products will be donated to more trees to support forest conservation efforts.
As a special offer, customers can receive an original JR Nagoya Takashimaya eco-bag, a collaboration with artist MISIA, who serves as the honorary ambassador for COP10.
It's reassuring to know that even a small act, like visiting the exhibition during your shopping trip and purchasing a piece you admire, can contribute to the future.
We are keen to see not only the artists' creativity but also to understand what each photographer envisioned when creating their work, and of course, to support forest preservation.
