Imagining a "Phenakistoscope" of memories fading like bubbles
"Dom Pérignon The Power of Creation" is a project where creators continue to challenge themselves,Champagneand draw inspiration from the brand "Dom Pérignon" to create new works filled with originality, creativity, and passion.
Painter Akira Yamaguchi, known for his unique works blending traditional Japanese techniques with contemporary themes, and GAINAX, the animation studio behind "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and other works that elevated animation to a social phenomenon, have collaborated to pursue unprecedented expression and experience.
The creation is an approximately 10-minute film projected onto a 7-meter diameter circular screen. The motif is a revolving lantern, evoking memories, spirits, and presences. Within the flow of time, like a great river, various images appear and disappear like bubbles, unfolding a dizzying world.
The film also features scenes captured of Akira Yamaguchi directly painting onto the stretched fabric of the screen. These are projected alongside the artwork.

The film also frequently features delicate, dancing bubbles, inspired by Dom Pérignon. These are the movements of Yoshihiro Fujita from the contemporary dance group "Condors," captured using motion capture. While his form itself does not appear, his movements manifest as bubbles, cherry blossoms, and snow, swirling and disrupting the scene.
Hiroyuki Yamaga, representative director and director at GAINAX, shared his thoughts on the work: "The concept was inspired by the taste of Dom Pérignon. Particularly, 'time' is a crucial element in wine. We wanted to express this intangible concept of 'time' through a phenakistoscope this time." Painter Akira Yamaguchi commented, "Dom Pérignon's Chef de Cave, Richard Geoffroy, described Dom Pérignon not as strength, but as complexity. Strength is easily forgotten, but complexity lingers. Lingering things belong to happiness. While tasting it, I thought I should depict happiness."
