A Masterpiece of Emotion, Revived Across Half a Century
DJ Toshio Matsuura presents "TOKYO MOON," a music program for adults. Airing every Sunday from 11:30 PM on InterFM 76.1MHz. We introduce "fresh" music selected from around the world, and topics that stimulate intellectual curiosity. Here, we look back at the content just aired. This is a series where you can enjoy "TOKYO MOON" with your eyes and ears, delving deeper into artists, introducing related songs, and even allowing you to purchase them. This week, we focus on the cover album "Getz/Gilberto+50," produced by Goro Ito, one of Japan's leading composers and guitarists.

Goro Ito, Known as Japan's "Beck"
Recorded in 1963, "Getz/Gilberto" is said to have been the catalyst for Bossa Nova's global spread. It's an album created by Stan Getz, a leading cool jazz saxophonist, along with Brazil's João Gilberto, Antônio Carlos Jobim, and others.
Half a century after its recording, this iconic work has been covered by Goro Ito, a composer, guitarist, and producer known for his work with the leading Bossa Nova duo naomi&goro and Moose Hill. He collaborated with his partner Naomi Fuse, as well as musicians from various generations and genres who are fans of this work, including Yosuke Yamashita, Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Jaques Morelenbaum, Tomoyo Harada, Midorin, and Goldman Akita, to create the full cover album "Getz/Gilberto+50."
While the arrangements are filled with respect for the original work, each song features a "shift" with shuffled vocals and band members, making it an album that can be enjoyed by comparing it with the original. This is a work that fully showcases the production skills of Goro, known as Japan's "Beck." Works filled with a love for music enrich our lives. Highly recommended.
About ten years ago, Goro invited me to participate in a project. When we met, we each nominated an album that symbolized our "current mood." Goro picked "The Velvet Underground" (1969), which still remains a strong impression for me (as for me, it was the soundtrack to Isabel Coixet's film "My Life Without Me"). I hope this also gets moving after ten years.
