Support African Children by Walking

Currently, approximately 66 million children worldwide attend school on an empty stomach. Of these, 23 million are children in Africa.

To support these African children, the UN WFP will hold the charity walk "WFP Walk the World for Africa" on Sunday, May 19th. Held in advance of the 5th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V), which will take place in Yokohama from Saturday, June 1st to Monday, June 3rd, the event aims to increase interest in the hunger issues faced by African children, with a portion of the participation fees supporting the UN WFP's school meal programs in Africa.

On the day, the walk will begin from Rinko Park in the Yokohama Minatomirai area, the main venue. Participants will choose between a 5km and a 10km course, walking through landmarks of the Yokohama Bay Area such as the Red Brick Warehouse and Yamashita Park. Special guest Eric Wainaina, an Olympic marathon medalist from Kenya who supports the event, will join participants in walking through Yokohama.

Last year's WFP Walk the World saw 2,786 participants and raised donations totaling 2,831,989 yen, enabling nutritious school meals to be provided to approximately 94,000 children.

Eliminate Hunger While Enjoying a Walk──We hope that as many people as possible will participate, and that delicious meals will reach many children.
