Gathering of Food Creators Sharing Raw Food, Macrobiotics, and More | "New Alive Food!!!"



Yoshie Itasaka, known as "BAN," travels in search of abundant food. The food trip event "New Alive Food!!!," introducing the food cultures she has encountered and learned from on her journeys, will be held from April 1st (Monday) to April 15th (Monday) at ROCKET in Jingumae.

BAN grew up savoring Shojin Ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) and Obanzai (Kyoto-style home cooking) in Kyoto and Nara, developing a taste for traditional Japanese food culture. In high school, she discovered macrobiotics, which sparked her interest in delicious food, people, and culture, leading her to embark on her travels. She has "eaten her way through" Belgium and the Netherlands at 22, and France at 23. Since the age of 26, she has been traveling in North America, exploring the relationship between culture and cuisine.

This event is being featured at "ROCKET," a space established by Yasushi Fujimoto, who has served as art director for publications like "VOGUE NIPPON" and "BRUTUS." ROCKET was reborn in 2011 as a new concept space connecting "food" and "art." In addition to featuring BAN's travelogue in the third issue of "ROCKET Magazine," to be published this spring, an event will be held where visitors can taste the dishes she encountered on her journeys.

The venue will host food creators who share a philosophy centered on veganism, raw food (eating ingredients as close to their natural state as possible), and macrobiotics, gathering from both within Japan and internationally, including Vancouver, Canada. With special dinners, workshops, and more, it promises to be an opportunity to contemplate new ways of eating together with participants.

"New Alive Food!!!" offers a culinary experience that awakens the body at the start of a new season. It's a chance to encounter a new self through food.

"TABI Shokudo"
A raw food cafe by Takuya Sasa, who aims for self-sufficiency in all aspects of life. In the evenings, there will be travel talks and kalimba (thumb piano) concerts.

"Gorilla Food Special"
Aaron Ash, former private chef for the US hip-hop group "Beastie Boys" and current owner of the popular Vancouver organic raw food cafe "Gorilla Food," will visit Japan. He will host a special dinner, a three-day workshop, and offer limited sales of his smoothie and sweets. His recipe book will also be available exclusively at ROCKET.

"Deco Nakajima Rice Terrace Cafe"
A cooking class and talk session by Deco Nakajima, a food researcher who runs "Brown's Field," a space with old houses and fields in Chiba. She aims for a self-sufficient lifestyle, growing vegetables and ancient grains with young people from around the world.

"Peaceful Cuisine "Organic Vege Junk Café""
A cafe by Saya Takahashi, who runs "Peaceful Cuisine," a cooking class that conveys the importance and joy of food through vegetarianism. An exhibition and sale of his handmade pottery will be held from April 9th (Tuesday) to 11th (Thursday).

A weekend cafe and workshop featuring the unique strengths and individualities of women active in the raw food scene in Tokyo.

A specialty shop for chocolate made from raw cacao, not roasted. Raw sweets and drinks, usually served at their Kyoto cafe, will be available in Harajuku.
