Gentle, Beautiful Harmonies Like a Soft Breeze
This week, we're highlighting three artists from the program who are worth paying attention to this spring. First, from the UK. Laura Mvula, a singer-songwriter from Birmingham, was ranked fourth on the BBC's list of "Ones to Watch" for the year.
"Green Garden," featuring gentle and beautiful vocal harmonies like a soft breeze, has already become a topic of conversation among a wide range of listeners even before its release. Expectations are high for her debut album, due out soon.
A Modern, Street-Infused Arrangement Brings a Classic to the Present
Next up, also from the UK. Jamie Cullum, who has become the most successful artist in British jazz history at a young age with his genre-bending work that bridges pop and jazz.
He has now signed with Island Records, the label that has brought us reggae artists like Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff, rock bands like King Crimson and U2, and more recently, new music from artists like Amy Winehouse and Portishead. His first release in three years, unveiled alongside this news, is a cover of the American standard "Love For Sale."
His previous cover songs have always been praised for their exquisite selection and unique arrangements. For this track, he features British rapper Roots Manuva, giving the song a modern, street-infused arrangement that successfully revives the classic for today. You can currently download it for free from the URL below, so let's listen while we await his new album, due out soon.

From Nagoya! What is Brisa, Creating World-Class Sound?
Finally, we introduce a track by a Japanese artist. Brisa, also known as Tetsu Shibuya, is a DJ and sound creator based in Nagoya. Under his alias Agora Rhythm, he has released numerous tracks on dance music labels such as Germany's Sonar Kollektiv and America's Night Grooves.
His 2008 album "Elevation Perception" as Brisa, featuring a diverse range of guest vocalists like Paul Randolph and Monday Michiru, received high acclaim, particularly within the club scene.
Now, he has launched his own label and released "Move On EP." The funky broken beat track "Move On" featuring MC Capital A, and the bluesy, jazzy beatdown track "The Soul," are sure to become the talk of the scene once again. These tracks hint at the resurgence of Nagoya, which, alongside Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Fukuoka, has been a hub for club jazz since the early 1990s.

A Night to Remember Disaster Areas with Music and Drinks
Last week, we announceda charity run on March 10th (Sunday) to support children in disaster-stricken areas of Tohoku. That evening, along with DJs Tatsuo Sunaga and Shuya Okino, we will be holding a Candle Night at "XEX Atago," a venue familiar for its champagne events, to support farmers in the disaster-stricken regions.
The "Tohoku Great Nanohana Project" (http://www.nanohana-tohoku.com) is working to restore farmland damaged by tsunamis. To support this project, an experiment called the "Tomo-su Tohoku Project" is underway with Tohoku University, which involves cultivating nanohana (rapeseed) that is resistant to salt damage and using the harvested rapeseed oil to make candles. For this event, we ask attendees to purchase a "Tomo-su Tohoku" candle upon entry. We hope to create a night where we can reflect on the disaster-stricken areas while enjoying music and drinks, illuminated by the light of these candles. For each 1000 yen candle purchased, 10% will be donated to the project. For those who can't make the run, please join us for this event. Of course, attending both events is also very welcome.
Let's come together on the eve of the second anniversary of the earthquake. We look forward to seeing you there.
