Broadway Musical "Rent" to Tour Japan in Summer 2018
The Japanese run of the musical "Rent," which premiered 20 years ago in 2016, is set for a return engagement in 2018. The new cast's energetic stage performance is sure to captivate audiences.
Text by WASEDA Kosaku (OPENERS)
After opening in a small New York theater in 1996, "RENT" moved to Broadway within two months. It swept awards, including the Pulitzer Prize, Tony Awards, and Obie Awards, creating a legion of devoted fans worldwide known as "Rentheads" and truly changing the history of musicals.
Based on Puccini's opera "La Bohème," the story depicts young people pursuing their dreams and living life to the fullest despite facing issues like AIDS, drugs, homosexuality, and the death of friends. Its beautiful music, which envelops this narrative, received high acclaim.
The Japanese production, held in 2016 to commemorate the show's 20th anniversary, sold out every performance. The original production, lauded for its cast brimming with new-generation energy, will return to Japan in the summer of 2018.
We highly recommend taking this opportunity to experience the "frenzy" that "Rent" creates.
