A New Work Embracing Fresh Challenges

Kamukamu Minikina was founded in 1990 by members of the Waseda University theater circle, "Engeki Kurabu." Since its inception, the troupe's leader, Takeshi Matsumura, has written and directed all of its productions. The company boasts a cast of distinctive actors, including Tomohito Yashima and Shihan Yamazaki, who are also active in film.

Renowned for their unique style that sweeps audiences into grand narratives with high-energy, fast-paced humor, and for direction that emphasizes theatrical expression, Kamukamu Minikina has explored the appeal of theater through various approaches, including their first major horror production in 2016.

The 64th production, "Roubai ~ An Opaque Ensemble Drama ~," sees Takeshi Matsumura depict "Roubai," a term formed from two kanji characters for 'wolf'.

A journalist, investigating rumors of a ghostwriter for a popular author, arrives in a remote mountain village in the Kanto region. In this isolated community, cut off from the times, the legend of a prince in tragic exile, whose life was saved by wolves, remains strong.

The villagers, all exuding a sense of unease, keep dogs, and the sound of their howling never ceases day or night. Staying in an old house, enduring eerie days, the journalist closes in on the author in question.

Eventually, the journalist disappears without a trace, leaving behind a note that reads, "There is another village in Rou Valley..."

2017, the 27th year since its founding, marks a new era of challenges for Kamukamu Minikina. The troupe will hold its first performance in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture. Additionally, they welcome guest performers making their Kamukamu Minikina debut, including Nobuo Kyo, Mayumi Shintani, and Kaori Tada.

This new production, "Roubai ~ An Opaque Ensemble Drama ~," which brings a fresh perspective to the troupe, is packed with noteworthy new experiments.
