An Elegant Onnagata

In June of this year, Ichikawa Kamejiro assumed the name of the fourth Ichikawa Ennosuke. While his foundation lies in classical kabuki, he has expanded his activities across genres, appearing in Ninagawa Kabuki, Mitani Parco Kabuki, and NHK's historical drama series. He has hosted 'Kamejiro no Kai' every summer, and this year marks the final independent performance under the 'Kamejiro' name as it reaches its tenth anniversary. This exhibition serves as a tribute to 'Kamejiro' as he prepares to soar as Ichikawa Ennosuke, commemorating his final performances under that name.


Photographer Seishi Nagatsuka was born in 1942. After graduating from the Tokyo College of Photography, he worked at the Japan Design Center's photography department, becoming an expert in commercial photography. He has handled numerous automotive advertising campaigns for various manufacturers and models, earning accolades such as the Asahi Advertising Award, Mainichi Advertising Award, and recognition at international biennales, establishing himself as one of Japan's leading photographers. Since 2002, he has been following actor Ichikawa Kamejiro, photographing him in nearly every role he has played, and has earned his complete trust.
