An Exploration of Cities Through a Dutch Painter and Street Art

Romantic Geography is a lecture series that invites critics and artists from various fields to learn about diverse phenomena through lectures and workshops. This session will be held in two parts. The first part features Nango as the speaker, discussing "Considering Contemporary Cities from Constant's New Babylon." The lecture will examine how Constant Nieuwenhuys's "New Babylon" architectural and urban project, active from the 1950s to the 1970s and continuing to influence many contemporary architects including Rem Koolhaas, lives on in today's cities.

In the second part, Ooyama, a rising artist based in New York and Tokyo, will lecture on the intimate relationship between art and cities from his unique perspective, titled "Street Art and GlobalizationFrom Experiences in New York." The lecture will delve into New York's art scene, interactions with artists there, and the role of the city in artistic creation.

This lecture offers discussions on art and cities from different angles. Ooyama will serve as commentator for Nango's lecture in the first part, and Nango for Ooyama's in the second. The encounter of values between a sociologist and an artist, both highly anticipated in their fields, promises to be a highlight.
