Creating Jobs by Utilizing Tohoku's Thinned Timber
Establishment of Minamisanriku Factory in Miyagi Prefecture
In March 2012, one year after the Great East Japan Earthquake, Frontier Japan, a company known for releasing innovative products using domestic timber, established a factory in Minamisanriku Town, Miyagi Prefecture, by renting a junior high school building and installing laser machinery.
Hidenobu Takegaki, Representative Director and President of the NPO "Forest Lifestyle Research Institute," introduces eco-friendly products made from thinned timber proposed by Frontier Japan.

Let's create a tailwind for Tohoku's forests together.
A year has passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake, but the affected areas are still facing severe challenges, and reconstruction is still a long way off.
Frontier Japan established a factory in Minamisanriku Town, Miyagi Prefecture, in March and has already begun operations, primarily focusing on manufacturing, packaging, and assembly of novelty products for corporations using thinned timber from Tohoku. Various companies are currently supporting this initiative and producing goods. The president of Frontier Japan has personally relocated to the area and is fully committed to the recovery of Tohoku's forests and the creation of employment for disaster victims.
From Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to Creating Shared Value (CSV)
CSV stands for Creating Shared Value, translated as "creation of common value." This is a new management concept proposed by Harvard University economist Professor Michael E. Porter. It replaces CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), which often tended to be temporary or one-off initiatives. CSV is a concept where companies fulfill their social responsibilities through their core business, and in doing so, companies and citizens work together to create "social good."
Creating Shared Value Through Forests
Japan's rich forests, covering approximately 70% of its land, continuously produce air and water, enabling people in urban areas to live without hardship by receiving their blessings. However, the reality is that these forests are deteriorating and facing a crisis. Frontier Japan believes that one of the crucial elements for forest conservation is "thinning."
By thinning, we prevent forest degradation while promoting the healthy growth of trees. These grown trees generate abundant water, supporting our lives. Ultimately, this contributes to the prevention of global warming and the conservation of biodiversity, enabling the inheritance of resources for future generations.
Frontier Japan positions products made from thinned timber as "JAPAN BRAND" to create value that can be shared with society, and strives for the future of Japan and the world. We welcome the participation of as many companies as possible.
