Film Music Explained Across Genres, with Sakamoto's Unique Selections
The Commons Schola series aims to be an archive that inherits global music. Leading artists from various fields, including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yukihiro Takahashi, Haruomi Hosono, and Yosuke Yamashita, serve as curators, providing not only commentary but also musicological and historical analyses by experts. Nine diverse volumes have already been released, covering themes such as "Classical Period," "Jazz," "Drum & Bass," and "Beethoven." The series is envisioned as a unique "music school" ultimately comprising 30 volumes: 16 classical and 14 non-classical.
Volume 10, "commmons: schola vol.10 Ryuichi Sakamoto Selections: Film Music," delves into the captivating world of film music, essential to understanding cinema history. Through discussions featuring Sakamoto, Akira Asada, Junichi Onuma, and Yuichi Kishimoto, the volume offers a comprehensive exploration. It includes 26 tracks, such as "Jane Eyre" (1943/Bernard Herrmann) and "Stalker" (1979/Eduard Artemyev), and showcases Sakamoto's distinctive track selection, offering a unique perspective beyond typical film soundtracks.
The talk event celebrating the release will be held on Tuesday, March 13th, from 5:30 PM at Daikanyama T-Site. Don't miss this conversation between two of Japan's most brilliant talents, Ryuichi Sakamoto and producer Toshio Suzuki! As only 100 numbered tickets are available, pre-order your copy soon.
