“Run for Children Tohoku” Project Launched

Sunday nights, a precious time of your own, flowing gently with exquisite music. Enhancing that time further is the radio program “TOKYO MOON” by DJ Toshio Matsuura. Every Sunday, from 7 PM, he broadcasts carefully selected wonderful music from around the world and topics for adults that stimulate intellectual curiosity on Inter FM 76.1MHz. Here, we look back at the program that just aired each week. This week, we selected soul and jazz-funk. And we briefly introduced the charity project that has finally started.

“Run for Children Tohoku”: For the Future of Tohoku’s Children

It’s been about a month until the Tokyo Marathon, and January is well underway. The “Run for Children Tohoku” project, which aims to raise donations for the NPO “HATAKCHI FUND” – an organization that supports the mental care, education, and daily lives of children in disaster-stricken areas as they overcome hardship and step into society – has also officially launched, with my first attempt at a full marathon.

My training is gradually increasing in distance, building my marathon sense and stamina. Despite the continuing cold weather, I will keep running with the children in the disaster-stricken areas in my thoughts. I appreciate your support.

I will support the children of Tohoku by running!

I, Toshio Matsuura, will be undertaking a challenge through JustGiving Japan to raise donations for the “HATAKCHI FUND (The Nippon Foundation)”. Under the title “Run For Children Tohoku,” I will attempt my first full marathon at the upcoming Tokyo Marathon 2012 on Sunday, February 26th. I am seeking donations for the HATAKCHI FUND (The Nippon Foundation), which provides continuous mental care, and support for the daily lives and education of children orphaned or affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, enabling them to overcome hardship and thrive in society.

DJ Gilles Peterson, based in London, UK, who has kindly agreed to support this challenge, will be coming to Japan to run with me. As the disaster approaches its 10-month mark, we aim to raise awareness for Tohoku, which is gradually fading from public attention, and to consider the future of the children who will carry it forward. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
