Support──The Professor's Initiatives Continue Unabated
Ryuichi Sakamoto is one of the founders of the "Children's Music Revival Fund - School Music Revival." With the slogan "Bringing smiles to children through the power of music and instruments," the project aims to inspect and repair musical instruments and equipment in schools affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.Great East Japan EarthquakeThe project aims to inspect and repair musical instruments and equipment in schools affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
A piano solo concert, "Ryuichi Sakamoto: playing the piano 2011," to raise funds for this cause will be held for four days from Sunday, December 25th to Wednesday, December 28th, at Yamaha Hall in Ginza, Tokyo. The concert ticket price is 10,000 yen in total, with 7,000 yen covering the minimum necessary expenses and 3,000 yen as a direct donation. The lineup of daily guests is exceptionally unique, featuring Taeko Onuki on the first day, jazz guitarist Otomo Yoshihide, Haruomi Hosono, and sho player Tamami Higashino, in that order. All performers, including the Professor, are participating on a voluntary basis, meaning without remuneration.

For this concert, methods have been devised to allow enjoyment not only for those present at Yamaha Hall in Ginza but also for a wider audience simultaneously. One is a special live viewing at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills. Another is a live broadcast to Sendai and Koriyama using Yamaha's "Remote Live" technology. Finally, there is the worldwide stream via USTREAM and YouTube. Please refer to the details below for each.
Ryuichi Sakamoto continues to send out his message through various means to sustain support for the disaster-stricken areas for as long as possible and to broaden its reach. We will continue to follow his activities with keen interest.
