The film 'Bonnie and Clyde,' depicting the journey from the meeting of the real-life bank-robbing couple Bonnie and Clyde during the Great Depression of the 1930s to their tragic end, is reborn as the musical 'Bonnie & Clyde.' Featuring the jazzy, flavorful music of composer Frank Wildhorn, known for hits like the Tony-nominated 'Jekyll & Hyde,' the production offers a fresh take on their story.
Starring Megumi Hamada, who captivated audiences as the heroine in the musical 'Aida' and 'Wicked' with the Shiki Theatre Company and makes her first stage appearance since leaving the company, and万里生 Tashiro, a rising star in the musical world. Through Bonnie and Clyde, who revel in their youth while committing crimes, the musical explores the light and shadow within young people living for the moment.
The direction is helmed by Satoshi Tao, acclaimed for his genre-defying international stage productions, having studied opera direction under Michael Hampe, theatre direction under Yukio Ninagawa, and film direction under Kazuaki Kiriya. Hailed as a visionary in the opera world, Tao brings a fresh perspective to musicals.
Also contributing to the production's star power is stylist Yoshiyuki Shimazu, active in fashion magazines and commercials. As visual supervisor, Shimazu stylishly recreates the nostalgic Bonnie-inspired fashion that garnered attention and influenced trends at the time of the film's release.
The story of two lovers who raced through a dark era, echoing the sense of confinement felt today. Experience this non-stop entertainment that hurtles towards a shocking conclusion.
