Judas, Christ with Soy: A Stage Production Planned and Performed by Mikiri Moriyama

The Japan premiere of "Judas, Christ with Soy" – based on Osamu Dazai's "Kakekomi Utae" – a performance work planned and starring Mikiri Moriyama, who is active as both a dancer and actor, will be held on July 11 (Sat) and 12 (Sun) at the "Uchiko-za," a historic playhouse in Uchiko Town, Ehime Prefecture. Moriyama and the collaborating artists will undertake a residency production, with the work staged in the venerable playhouse.

Held at a Historic Playhouse in Ehime Prefecture

In 2013, Mikiri Moriyama spent a year in Israel as a cultural exchange envoy for dance. The stage production "Judas, Christ with Soy," which he staged in Tel Aviv in 2014 with Israeli artist Ella Rothschild, will now be performed in Japan.

"Judas, Christ with Soy" is a performance work based on Osamu Dazai's short story "Kakekomi Utae," which explores the emotions Judas, known as the betrayer, might have felt towards Jesus Christ. For this production, a month-long residency (production period) was undertaken in Uchiko Town, the performance venue, and the work has been reconfigured with the addition of Shogo Yoshii on music.

The chosen venue is the "Uchiko-za," a playhouse with approximately 500 seats, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. Their refined performance will unfold within this historic building, constructed during the Taisho era.

Three performances will be held on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12. Tickets go on sale starting Saturday, May 30, at 10:00 AM.
