A Bean-Shaped Body That Conveys the Warmth of Wood

The "TOUCH WOOD SH-08C" is a Sharp-manufactured device with a full touch panel. In addition to "forest-themed" content in the top menu and built-in graphics, frequently used functions such as calls, email, and camera can be pinned to the standby screen for personalized customization and one-touch activation. It also features a touch-based QWERTY soft keyboard for more comfortable input, such as for emails.

The "TOUCH WOOD" Project Advocated by more trees

more trees was established by over 100 musicians and prominent figures, including Ryuichi Sakamoto, who have lent their support. Currently, approximately 25 percent of Japan's landmass is covered by artificial forests. more trees warns that if these forests are not maintained through thinning, they will lose their function as forests and, if left unattended, will disrupt the ecosystem. "TOUCH WOOD" is a project that proposes new ways to utilize thinned wood to protect forests and the nation's land, connecting Japan's cities and regions, businesses and people, and devising and implementing sustainable products and business models.

more trees is currently developing forest regeneration projects at seven locations domestically and one overseas. For this project, thinned wood from "more trees' forest" in Nakatosa Town, Kochi Prefecture, one of these locations, was used for the mobile phone's body. Additionally, the instruction manual is also printed on paper made from thinned wood.

The design adopts a bean-shaped form that conveys the warmth of wood. Utilizing Olympus's die-casting technology for three-dimensional compression molding of wood, it achieves high durability, water resistance, insect repellency, and mold resistance while preserving the texture and aroma.

The "TOUCH WOOD SH-08C" is scheduled for release between February and March 2011.
