Terumi Hagiwara Series Vol. 124 | The Effortless Trend Continues
“Effortless” Women Emerge: No Need to Try So Hard
Dries Van Noten, Chloé, Stella McCartney
The 1980s, with its emphasis on competitive newness, has given way to collections that favor enduring style. Among these, the “effortless woman” continues to be a prominent theme, following from last season. It’s a realistic, simple style that doesn’t demand effort.

Focus Shifts to Building Style Over Trends
Recent collection trends have been unfolding gradually and at a relaxed pace. Unlike the 1980s, with its rapid shifts in imagined female archetypes, details, shoulder widths, and skirt lengths, things have become more stable. Another key element is the incorporation of reality.
The Fall/Winter 2015-16 collections prominently feature the “effortless woman” who emerged last season in Milan and Paris. A woman who is cool precisely because she’s relaxed and unforced! There’s no need to strain anymore. Perhaps this reflects the ease of modern women. Or is it a resigned acceptance that effort ultimately yields little?
Dries Van Noten: Pursuing Personal Style
Dries Van Noten presented a collection that champions a personal, unhurried style. A trench coat layered with a gown, paired with tucked trousers. A printed blouse layered over a jacquard knit, combined with a long skirt. While the items are familiar, their volume and the interplay of patterns feel fresh.
Chloé's Reality: A Female Designer's Touch
Chloé, designed by Clare Waight Keller, showcased long printed dresses paired with small vests. A slender scarf tied around the neck like a necktie lent a 1970s vibe. The looks were completed with short boots and a tasseled shoulder bag. The long dress, which appeared last season, feels like a practical item for this season. Many outfits were styled with boots or low heels.
Stella McCartney: Where Casualness Meets Sophistication
Stella McCartney's collection is characterized by knitwear and unbalanced silhouettes. The flared and peplum details, seemingly casual yet precisely cut, add a feminine touch. A pearl choker accentuates the décolletage of the dress.
