Pioneering New Frontiers in Sustainability with Fur Free Fur

Since its inception, Stella McCartney has adhered to a spirit of cruelty-free (not sacrificing animals/not using animal-derived products).

The newly announced KOBA® Fur Free Fur was jointly developed by US-based DuPont and global faux fur manufacturer EcoPel. By blending up to 100% Sorana® polymer homofilament fiber from DuPont™, it is the first bio-based faux fur for commercial use, serving as a soft, versatile, and long-lasting alternative to fur.
The raw materials include recycled polyester, realizing a circular fashion loop where it can be recycled rather than discarded after its long lifespan.

Furthermore, because KOBA® Fur Free Fur is 37% plant-derived, it has succeeded in reducing energy consumption by up to 30% and greenhouse gas emissions by up to 65% compared to conventional synthetic fibers.
Stella McCartney, who has always been passionate about a circular future, commented:

“I am thrilled about the newly developed eco-friendly bio Fur Free Fur. This is undoubtedly another significant step towards a future of sustainable, animal-free fashion.”

Lenny Ghenzi, Global Marketing Director for DuPont Biomaterials, said:

“This partnership allows us to realize both her spirit of being cruelty-free and sustainable. We expect to see continued growth in the use of bio-based materials through our partnership with KOBA®.”
For the Summer 2020 collection, Natalia Vodianova, who appeared in the front row, wore a prototype coat made with KOBA® Fur Free Fur. The onyx black coat features a distinctive design with contrasting Alter Nappa details.

Additionally, the Autumn 2020 collection will feature coats made from KOBA® Fur Free Fur and the iconic Falabella bag.

KOBA® Fur Free Fur is scheduled to be available as part of the Stella McCartney collection from July 2020.
