Rings Combining Seemingly Disparate Expressions
Artist Hiroko Takahashi, who states, “My entire body of work is an expression aimed at overturning everyday assumptions and prompting contemplation,” recently appeared in a promotional video for the 30th anniversary of Macintosh, released on January 24th (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJahlKPCL9g).
In her project “Monmaya Plus,” a collaboration with the long-established Sendai Tansu maker “Momma Tansuten,” known for its high-quality chests of drawers, she announced the second product:A cabinet in collaboration with product designer Jin Kuramotoand last year, she held an exhibition in Paris titled“Le bouleversement des manières de penser”demonstrating her energetic activities across multiple fields.
The “TAKAHASHI HIROKO for ISETAN” Monumental collection, announced this time, is based on styling inspired by the original pieces meticulously crafted by artisans in the 1960s, when diamond engagement rings became established in Japan.
The style of the era, which held diamonds high to capture more light, making them shine brighter and appear larger, has been elevated into a design that enhances a woman's gentleness and softness by combining it with sharp studs.
Hiroko Takahashi states, “The bridal ring series ‘Monumental,’ which combines seemingly disparate expressions, is inspired by the image of a woman who possesses the strength to forge her own future while being loved across time.”
Each of the three types—Monumental Pyramid, Monumental Dome, and Monumental Ridge—is available as both an engagement ring and a wedding band.
