A Minimal Body Dress Layered with Ribbons and Lace
This was Viktor & Rolf's second collection since returning to the haute couture calendar. This season, they once again staged a delightful show full of ideas. As the curtain fell, revealing only the dancers' feet, rows of ballerina pointe shoes appeared. Models, standing on tiptoe, emerged one by one like marionettes. Dresses made extensively of latex offered a nude finish, blurring the lines between body and garment. The elegant movements on tiptoe gently sculpted the translucent forms. It was a collection where the body and clothing merged and dissolved into one another.
Chanel presented a collection that added light to transparency. Sofas arranged in the Grand Palais evoked a modern nightclub. Models, clad in dresses of sheer white and pastel hues, descended a white spiral staircase with a light step. Tweed sneakers were paired with trompe-l'oeil dresses that appeared to be layered with mid-length tops. Gentle rounded shoulders and a cinched waist were achieved by layering organza and lace, modernizing elegance.
