40 Years of Creativity
The show was held at St. Agnes Church (Johann König Gallery), sponsored by Audi, in conjunction with "Gallery Weekend," one of the world's leading annual art fairs in Berlin. In addition to this show, two other events were held concurrently in Berlin under the theme "Cutting Age: Yohji Yamamoto in Berlin."
One was the premiere screening of the documentary film "5 Cuts | A Visual Dialogue," about designer Yohji Yamamoto. The other was an installation by Masao Nihei, Yohji Yamamoto's lighting designer who also handled the venue design for the show, held at the boutique Andreas Murkudis. The title "Cutting Age" carries a dual meaning: the skill in refined tailoring (cutting) and the 40 years of creativity where the artist himself has continuously challenged fashion industry norms.
Yamamoto's creations, which have transcended the boundaries of art and fashion for 40 years, have previously been exhibited in museums worldwide, including the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in the UK. Regarding the Berlin show, Yamamoto stated, "Berlin plays an extremely important role in the global art and fashion world. It is also a place and a metaphor for social discourse, full of inspiration and momentum. I am very happy to be able to bring my clothes to Berlin."
