Uniting Voices for Women Worldwide into One Powerful Force
Chime for Change is a global campaign established by Gucci to raise funds and awareness for the empowerment of girls and women. With education, health, and justice as its three core pillars, it calls for people to raise their awareness and support with tailored projects to bring about effective change for girls and women globally.
On that day, co-founder Salma Hayek Pinault took the stage representing co-founders Frida Giannini and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. She announced the launch of Chime for Change through a short film she narrated, accompanied by new music from Beyoncé. Additionally, a highlight reel of "THE SUPREME PRICE," produced and directed by Joana Lipper, was presented as the first of ten short films intended to inspire girls and women worldwide. This film tells the story of Hafsat Abiola, a Nigerian democracy activist, and also won the 2012 Gucci Tribeca Documentary Fund and the Spotlight on Women Documentary Award.
"This is both an urgent issue of our time and an opportunity for change," commented Frida Giannini, Gucci's Creative Director and one of the co-founders. "We are at a pivotal moment in the history of girls' and women's empowerment. Through this campaign, we hope to make the voices calling for change so loud that they cannot be ignored."
Salma Hayek Pinault, also a co-founder, commented, "I am proud to be part of a movement that is spreading across borders for women and girls around the world." Beyoncé Knowles-Carter added, "It is up to us whether we can change the statistics for women worldwide. I am proud to be with women who live their days bravely and set an example for the next generation of young women."
Gucci has a long history of supporting girls and women, including a seven-year partnership with UNICEF to support girls' education. The brand has also established two film awards for women: the "Spotlighting Women Documentary Award" and the "Gucci Award for Women in Cinema" in partnership with the Venice International Film Festival.
Moving forward, Gucci plans to deliver the latest news to the community and will make a significant announcement in late March regarding a global event to bring issues concerning girls and women to the world stage.
