Gucci's Enduring Flora: Always Fresh

While Gucci has several iconic symbols, such as the GG pattern, horsebit, and bamboo, the "Flora" print stood out in the 2013 Cruise Collection.

The "Flora" print originated in 1966, specially designed for Princess Grace of Monaco. When Princess Grace and her husband, Prince Rainier, visited Gucci in Milan, Rodolfo Gucci, seeking a unique gift, commissioned the trusted illustrator Vittorio Accornero to design a scarf with a beautiful floral motif. Accornero's response was the original "Flora" print design.

As you know, the design, depicting colorful flowers and insects, became an iconic Gucci motif loved by many women for years to come. In the Spring/Summer 2005 collection, Frida Giannini, who had just been appointed Creative Director, revitalized the "Flora" print for printed canvas bags.
In the 2013 Cruise Collection, flowers are rendered with vibrant colors and monochrome outlines, layered with precise techniques. After 39 years, it is reborn as a contemporary icon, conveying the timeless allure of "Flora."

The 2013 Cruise Collection features the "Flora" print throughout the wardrobe. From iconic Gucci bags to apparel and shoes, it appears across the collection, perfect for a vacation. The floral motif blooms on iconic bags like the New Jackie and New Bamboo, as well as on Boston and tote bags, with leather trimmings enhancing the natural canvas print. Men's items, including high-top sneakers and wallets, also deserve attention.

Each item expresses the flowers of the changing seasons, evoking a bright early summer mood. Incorporating just one piece can transform a dark winter palette into an instant burst of floral splendor.
