Creating Clothes That Endure as Style Beyond Trends
What constitutes a style that transcends eras and trends, to be passed down through generations? This piece captures a moment of "style" from the looks presented by Chanel and Prada in their Fall/Winter 2012-13 collections.

A Season for Statement Costume Jewelry!
"What I want to create is style, not fashion," said Coco Chanel. As she declared, she established a style instantly recognizable as Chanel. It's about creating clothes that endure as style, transcending trends.
For Fall/Winter 2012-13, Chanel presented weighty ensembles: tweed dresses, jackets, and coats, all in matching fabrics, paired with trousers. The looks were deconstructed with the addition of costume jewelry, baroque pearls, and large camellia brooches, creating a punkish yet elegant coordination.
This autumn sees the emergence of large costume jewelry pieces. Think oversized necklaces and brooches resembling buttons.
Prada showcased looks featuring black wool suits where bijou embellishments adorned the hems of trousers and the lapels of jackets. Bags and shoes were also accented with bijou. The effect was substantial yet elegant. This season calls for the kind of vintage accessories one might find at a flea market.
