Dream Dresses Crafted with Cutwork

Flowing dresses layered with intricate detail work. Raf Simons (Dior) showcased his masterful techniques. The transformative coordination, combining a bustier with culottes and sheer dresses, was breathtaking.

A Free-Spirited Woman Bridging Past and Future

The Spring/Summer 2016 Paris Collection. Dior created a massive hill in the courtyard of the Louvre Museum. At the entrance, purple delphiniums bloomed in a riot of changing colors and forms. The stage was not a manicured garden as usual, but a mountain of flowers growing wild.

The first look featured delicate cutwork in a Victorian-inspired style: a white cotton bustier and culottes. It drew us into the innocent world Raf Simons has been pursuing. This was layered with a biker jacket. The cutwork lines from the bustier and hem accentuated the silhouette, and the peplum became pleats, swinging at the jacket's hem. A striped silk parka was then added. The interior featured pleating, revealing a gentle expression from the flowing hem. Layering a silk cutwork dress created a complex graphic with the sheer lines of the top and bottom.

A midriff knit in low-gauge Shetland, with its voluminous sleeves, added volume to the delicate dress. The minimalist technique of cutwork created elegant lines. These coordinated pieces generated a transformative contrast. Amazing! My favorite look was the one combining a bustier and culottes with a striped silk organza dress.

The theme was "Horizon." Artistic Director Raf Simons described it as "a collection simplified to the extreme, converging into a single line," inspired by a woman traveling between the past and future. It was a 30-minute journey into another dimension, wandering through infinite time and space.
