Takahashi Hiroko | #013 Arabesque Pattern for SHISEIDO THE GINZA
SHISEIDO THE GINZA opened on May 14th in Ginza 7-chome. Spanning the first three floors, it's a space where you can experience the diverse beauty proposed by Shiseido. Through a collaboration with SHISEIDO THE GINZA, a new arabesque pattern has been born.

A highly auspicious pattern symbolizing good fortune and longevity.
Shiseido is synonymous with camellias. And the arabesque pattern, which appears on various packaging, is also striking. Shiseido's history with arabesque design is long, first appearing on the "Dolux" product line in 1932, and since then, numerous original Shiseido arabesque patterns have been created. The arabesque pattern, with its leaves and branches extending in all directions, intertwining and growing endlessly, symbolizes eternal good fortune and longevity, making it a highly auspicious motif.
For the opening of SHISEIDO THE GINZA, the new arabesque pattern I created is inspired by the climbing roses often seen on entrance arches. I depicted thorny rose vines, not leaves that wither and fall. The thorns on a rose are for protection against external threats. As it's often said that beauty has thorns, this arabesque pattern was born from the idea of 'protecting oneself from external threats (such as UV rays) with thorns, and becoming endlessly beautiful with Shiseido's cosmetics,' layering this concept with the image of a strong, resilient woman.
This pattern is also featured in the decor of the "Beauty Marché" on the first floor of SHISEIDO THE GINZA for a limited time. Alongside cosmetics, HIROCOLEDGE's summer items, including cotton scarves adorned with this pattern, as well as fans, tenugui (hand towels), and yukata, are also on display.

Please visit SHISEIDO THE GINZA to see them in person.
