002 ISETAN LIVING × HIROCOLEDGE
# 002 ISETAN LIVING × HIROCOLEDGE
This collaboration was born from an invitation from Isetan to jointly develop a diverse range of living items that reflect HIROCOLEDGE's worldview, as part of their "Only I" new product initiative.
While I have worked on various items before, this was the first time undertaking product development simultaneously across such a wide spectrum of functions, forms, and materials.

Encountering new materials and techniques, a thrilling time of wondering what could be created
This initiative was also a first for Isetan Living. When I first received the offer last October, I learned there were less than five months until the sales launch, and I thought it would be difficult to realize.
However, I sensed the buyers' passion for this unprecedented endeavor and their forward-looking ambition to change things from here, which led me to decide to proceed.
Everything about this project was new, and I believe everyone involved faced various challenges. I heard that it was very rare for the typically busy buyers to all be available at the same time.
I remember being overwhelmed by the sheer number of proposed items when I first met all the buyers, who explained their respective proposals in a short amount of time.
We began by receiving proposals from the buyers regarding items, materials, shapes, manufacturing methods, and desired retail prices. Through lively discussions and feedback on these proposals, we carefully selected the items to be produced.
Following that, there were days of meetings with various manufacturers. It was a thrilling time of encountering new materials and techniques, wondering what could be created.

Items that not only possess beauty but also inspire thought and curiosity
The items developed this time are designed to enrich and bring joy to daily life when added to our current routines.
Strictly speaking, color and pattern might not be necessary for some items to function. Even the tenugui towels that HIROCOLEDGE offers function perfectly well without any patterns, and are also more environmentally friendly when dyes are not used.
Since ancient times, humans have strived to create a richer life, dedicating efforts not only to functionality but also to the adornment of everyday items.
Many techniques born from the expression of new materials, colors, and patterns have evolved over time, and many are now considered traditional crafts.

We live in an era where items are abundant, and various colors and patterns can be enjoyed with ease.
It is precisely for this reason that I wish to create items that are not merely beautiful, but also serve as a catalyst for thought and a desire to learn more.
I want to convey the stories behind the creation of these objects – the history, the techniques, the artisans, the tools, and the materials – while delighting the eye and adding color to life.
Each of the items developed this time has a story that is almost too vast to tell. I hope that as you enjoy using them, you will also become curious about their backgrounds.
