A Message from Catherine Malandrino

Hello! I'm Catherine Malandrino. This short series, my column, will be launching on OPENERS every weekend for a total of eight installments. In this series, I want to share my news from New York, my recommended spots in the city, travel, what I'm thinking about, and hot topics. I hope you'll join me for the next two months.

I am always immersed in the relentless cycle of the fashion calendar. Along the way, there are many moments where I encounter interesting things that inspire me. And these moments remind me, “How fortunate I am to be in such a dynamic and creative world!”

Beyond my work in fashion design, various other things unfold in my lifestyle. Parties, for instance. Recently, I attended the ELLE 25th anniversary party at MoMA, the WWD 100th anniversary party, and a party hosted by the Fashion Group International (photo, bottom left).
And the photo in the middle bottom is with Bernard Aidan, my partner in both life and business.
The photo on the bottom right is with my dear friend and invaluable partner, Mary J. Blige, a leading R&B singer in America. It was taken during a meeting for the collection I created for charity last year, inspired by music, in support of the philosophy of FFAWN (THE FOUNDATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF WOMEN NOW), a non-profit organization she co-founded in 2007 to support women in realizing their dreams by providing educational and developmental programs that unlock their potential, regardless of their financial circumstances or background.
I'm excited to share with you the private moments of my life, as well as the behind-the-scenes of my design process!

Now then... I'm writing this letter in late January 2011. In fact, I'm in the midst of preparing for the Fall/Winter 2011-12 collection, which will be presented on February 13th. Since I handle both "Malandrino" and the second line "Catherine Malandrino," I'm currently in a frenzy finishing them up. For now, I'll introduce pieces from the previous season.

Born in Grenoble, France. After graduating from ESMOD Paris, she honed her skills at renowned Maisons such as Emanuel Ungaro, Louis Féraud, and Yves Saint Laurent. In 1998, she took her first step into a dazzling career in America as the Head Designer for Diane von Furstenberg. Subsequently, she launched two brands: "Malandrino," an exclusive and high-end limited edition line, and "Catherine Malandrino," which incorporates a more casual aesthetic. Her feminine, elegant, and distinctive collections have garnered passionate support from women worldwide.
