A rare opportunity to glimpse the creative process born from the fashion world's most provocative minds.—The current Vivienne Westwood "Dress Up Story - 1990 Until Now" exhibition features André Leon Talley, the renowned former contributing editor for American Vogue, as its curator.
The exhibition, comprising over 33 pieces selected from Westwood's groundbreaking 1991 Spring/Summer collection "Cut, Slash, and Pull" and her latest "Dress Up Story" collection, was realized in collaboration with her creative partner and husband, Andreas Kronthaler.
Vivienne is known as an unconventional maverick, an artist, and an activist. This exhibition showcases garments, accessories, and fashion show footage, allowing visitors to appreciate her revolutionary pattern-making, intuitive fabric choices, and distinctive techniques.
Vivienne's work consistently reflects the issues of its time, from her role in igniting the punk movement in London to her work as an environmental activist. "My clothes are more destructive than ever before. In a world of conformity, they give people real choice," Westwood states.
She skillfully reinterprets iconic cultural elements, expressing contemporary life through novel and creative designs.
Vivienne adds, "Our customers are interested in history, they are romantic and theatrical. We know what kind of characters they are. Each interprets the clothes in their own way and wears them with their own style. They are also inhabitants of another world, a world more ideal than reality. Andreas and I have been designing for 25 years. We work together and live together. This is our story."
In the salon, British and American paintings, carefully selected from the SCAD Museum of Art's "Arthur W. Newton Collection," are displayed against the backdrop of Vivienne's works. Paula Wallace, President and Founder of SCAD, commented, "The SCAD Museum of Art offers innovative and dynamic art experiences to students and people of all ages. We are honored to exhibit Vivienne's magnificent creations."
