Adult Skater Fashion with a 90s Vibe
An NFT art piece, based on the jacket photo of the film "KIDS" soundtrack album and officially sanctioned by director Larry Clark, has been produced in a limited run of only five worldwide. A T-shirt designed with one of these artworks will be released exclusively at BARNEYS NEW YORK starting Friday, May 13th.
A T-Shirt of High Artistic Merit
"KIDS," released in 1995, is an unconventional coming-of-age film directed by photographer Larry Clark, offering a raw depiction of the lives of New York street kids. The film propelled its lead, Chloë Sevigny, to prominence not only as an actress but also as a fashion model, and it continues to command a devoted following today.
Now, an NFT (Non-Fungible Token) artwork has been created, inspired by the iconic soundtrack album jacket photo, which is as beloved as the film itself. This digital art, possessing the unique value of a painting, has been produced in a limited edition of just five pieces worldwide, each with distinct variations in its pixelated elements.
The production involved Japan's R.TM GALLERY commissioning the emerging artist collective PAIN(T)KILLER, with official approval from Larry Clark. A T-shirt designed with one of these five artworks will be sold exclusively at BARNEYS NEW YORK starting Friday, May 13th.
The limited edition T-shirts feature the artwork on the front and credits for the cast and crew on the back. Available in short-sleeve and long-sleeve styles, each in two colors (BLACK / WHITE).
To commemorate the launch of the limited edition T-shirts, window displays will be featured at each store starting Wednesday, April 27th. The NFT art is also scheduled for exhibition from Friday, May 13th. Four of the NFT artworks will be offered via lottery to customers at BARNEYS NEW YORK Japan, while the remaining piece will be auctioned on "OpenSea," one of the world's largest NFT marketplaces.
With the 90s youth style experiencing a revival, skater fashion is gaining significant attention. While various brands are embracing this aesthetic, a T-shirt based on a film from the peak of skate culture offers a distinct sense of authenticity.
