Suddenly, the World Began to Notice Me

Designer Christian Pellizzari hails from Treviso in northeastern Italy. After gaining experience at numerous fashion houses, he debuted his eponymous brand, "Christian Pellizzari," in 2011. This marks his second visit to Japan, the first being ten years ago.

"Ten years ago, I was still a student and visited Japan as a tourist. This time, as a designer, I wanted to interact with Japanese buyers and fashion enthusiasts, understand what's currently trending in Japan, and grasp the market's movements. I really like Japan. Compared to a decade ago, I feel the fashion scene is moving much faster," Pellizzari shared.

Regarding his selection for Giorgio Armani's "Young Support Project," he stated, "Until then, I was doing what I loved for a limited audience, but being chosen by Giorgio brought about a significant change. Suddenly, the world began to notice me, and I felt a sense of expectation. The support from such a great designer was incredibly gratifying."

"I believe Giorgio was particularly interested in my distinct approach to menswear, which differs from his own. While his menswear is classic, mine plays with color and has a more pop sensibility. Of course, I'm still developing, but I feel he recognized my potential for growth."

Special Garments for Any Occasion

Christian Pellizzari presented his Spring/Summer 2015 collection on the stage of "Armani/Teatro," designed by architect Tadao Ando, this past June. As an emerging designer from Milan, his collection garnered significant attention from numerous media outlets. "When I started the brand in 2011, I aimed to create 'special garments that can be enjoyed for any occasion.' This collection, presented at Armani/Teatro, is a continuation of that vision and provided an excellent opportunity to introduce myself, a relatively unknown designer, to an international audience. We showcased 28 menswear looks and 5 womenswear looks on the runway. I am very satisfied with this collection and am eager to evolve it further."

The "Christian Pellizzari" collection, for both men and women, is characterized by a relaxed, mixed aesthetic. For menswear, it fuses tailoring with sportswear. For womenswear, it features "coordi-dresses"—all-in-one pieces combining different materials for comfortable wear throughout the day. The brand proposes clothing that can be worn effortlessly for daily activities or evening parties.

What's the Difference Between Menswear and Womenswear Designs?

"What I find interesting about designing menswear is the challenge of creatively adhering to the established rules of men's fashion. Modernizing classics is the most exciting part. On the other hand, womenswear allows for boundless imagination, which is fascinating. For womenswear, I focus on the image; for menswear, on quality," Pellizzari explained.
When asked about his favorite designers, he replied, "I admire many designers for various reasons. From a creative standpoint, I pay attention to Dries Van Noten. Of course, I also deeply respect Giorgio Armani. Furthermore, I've come to observe Hedi Slimane, who heads Saint Laurent, from a sales perspective."

Menswear Line Pays Homage to a Young Armani

The menswear for Christian Pellizzari's Spring/Summer 2015 collection draws inspiration from the film "American Gigolo" (released in 1980). When asked why, he explained, "The costumes for Richard Gere's character in that film were designed by Giorgio Armani, who was then relatively unknown. This time, as a tribute to being selected by Armani, I wanted to recreate the world of 'American Gigolo' through my own interpretation."

"The collection imagines 'daytime,' with bright colors worn under the dazzling summer sun, and 'nighttime,' primarily in calm grays and beiges. We propose styling that can be worn for both day and night. For menswear, I want people to enjoy fashion by experiencing the colors and materials. For womenswear, as exemplified by the one-piece dresses combining sweatshirts and skirts, I want them to enjoy comfortable and easy-to-wear clothing for daily life," Pellizzari stated.

"What we Italians are fortunate with in fashion design is access to high-quality fabrics and a tradition of craftsmanship. Moreover, we can create items that are both creative and commercially successful," he emphasized, highlighting the strengths of Italian design.
