Carefully Selected Brands from Around the World with a Unique Perspective
"MAN TOKYO," a collective showroom, was held in Tokyo's Minato ward at Meiji Kinenkan, following Paris and New York as the third location. The venue, spread across five floors, showcased carefully selected brands from various countries, featuring diverse genres including apparel, footwear, and leather goods.
The event drew numerous buyers not only from Tokyo-based stores but also from shops in regional areas. Some participants learned about the showroom through word-of-mouth and rushed to attend, while others had long known of "MAN" and eagerly awaited its arrival in Japan.
The venue featured many brands with unique hooks, such as Portugal's "senhor PRUÊNCIO," which focuses on leather products including leather shoes and also collaborates with bicycle manufacturers to create bicycle bags, and South Korea's "friday night blazer club," which proudly calls itself a "blazer specialist."
Brands from within Japan, such as "MINOTAUR" and "Orslow," also exhibited. While these collections were first presented in Paris and New York, they were shown as a form of "reverse import" for the 2015 Spring-Summer season.
Typically, Japanese brands that primarily target the domestic market would not usually present their Spring-Summer collections for the following year at this point. However, brands operating without regard for domestic or international boundaries produce their collections on a different rhythm to keep pace with the global fashion market.
"MAN" serves as a platform for presenting unique, high-quality, and appealing items, offering new discoveries. While this event focused on fashion, the original "MAN" in Paris also features art exhibitions.
In addition, the renowned Japanese select shop "ÉDIFICE" also had a booth at the venue. Having pursued "French style" in Japan for 20 years, the shop seemed poised to participate as the latest exhibition from France arrived.
During the MAN TOKYO event, the "ÉDIFICE TOKYO" store opened a pop-up shop featuring a limited collaboration T-shirt sale and an exhibition of previously used visuals and novelty items. Furthermore, a cocktail party was held, inviting brand representatives and MAN staff from the home country, bringing together those who share a keen sense of style for international fashion exchange.
