The Third Series of Forest-Growing Socks Arrives

Popular Illustrators Create Art on Socks as Their Canvas

The general incorporated association "more trees" is a forest conservation organization led by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto. They have been involved in various initiatives, including afforestation projects both domestically and internationally, as well as producing business lounges. Among these, their products are perhaps the most familiar to us. These range widely, encompassing furniture, art pieces, and apparel.

This collaboration is with "Fukuske," a manufacturer and seller of tabi, socks, and innerwear. "Fukuske x more trees" began with Fukuske's desire, upon reaching its 130th anniversary in 2012, to contribute to society through a new project. This original sock collaboration, launched in the Spring/Summer 2013 season, marks its third iteration this season.

Designs were commissioned from Mika Itaya, who has participated since the first collaboration; Akira Sorimachi, active mainly in magazines and advertisements with illustrations that exude a strong sense of fashion; and Kohei Asakura, whose colorful and gentle paintings using watercolors and acrylics have garnered attention.

Mika Itaya's illustrations, expressing innocence with a raw, almost visceral quality in primary colors; Akira Sorimachi's works, drawn with a soft palette and warm touch; and Kohei Asakura's paintings, weaving Japan's rich nature into abstract imagery—all were newly created for this project and translated into sock designs.

The packaging (header card) features a tag with basil seeds, known as an "eco-tag." Made from a special material that returns to nature, it can be planted directly in the soil. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to more trees to support forest conservation activities.
