ALARDI 1930
A Milanese Leather Brand Upholding Traditional Techniques
Report on the Bespoke Event at Strasburgo Tokyo Midtown
ARALDI 1930 is a long-established leather brand from Milan, Italy, with four generations of history. The traditional saddlery techniques passed down since the 19th century, advanced handmade craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to detail are still reflected in their products today. Recently, a bespoke event was held at Strasburgo Tokyo Midtown, where a craftsman from Italy visited Japan and demonstrated their techniques firsthand.

Carrying Tradition, Connecting the World and Italy
ARALDI 1930 pursues unique leather items, boldly utilizing luxurious, high-quality hides. Among Italy's many proud leather brands, ARALDI 1930 holds a distinct presence. Offering a range from bags to accessories like belts and shoes, they propose individualistic and sophisticated styles. The most distinctive feature of their products is the dynamic gradation of colors.
Recently, a bespoke event for leather goods was held at Strasburgo Tokyo Midtown, with a craftsman from Italy visiting Japan. The traditional technique "TAMPONART," used since the brand's founding to create its signature beautiful colors, was demonstrated.
Dye is applied to the undyed leather by dabbing it with cotton wrapped in gauze. Tamponato means "to dab," and as the name suggests, this technique involves repeatedly "dabbing" to adjust the color.
First, color is applied evenly across the entire surface, then finished to be darker towards the edges. While the process is simple, it makes individual product variations highly visible. Maintaining consistent product quality requires the craftsman's skilled technique.
This time, along with the craftsman, ARALDI 1930 President Stefano Pierpaoli and Creative Director Paolo Seccia visited Japan. They spoke about the brand.
"This collection was conceived in Central Park, New York, and brought to life in our workshop in Milan. The brand's concept is precisely that: connecting the world and Italy.
Furthermore, in the past, luxury leather houses essentially offered made-to-measure services, providing products tailored to each individual. We aim to deliver products that fit the unique personality of each ARALDI 1930 customer, even today."
"We believe it's important for customers who discover ARALDI 1930 at boutiques or exhibitions to have a new experience. The reason we were able to hold this bespoke event was initiated by the president of Strasburgo experiencing our products at Pitti Uomo.
We should understand our customers' perspectives, and we want our customers to understand the producers' perspectives. To that end, we are exploring concrete ideas such as having craftsmen permanently stationed at our stores."
"I have been visiting Japan every year for the past 25 years for research and to build connections. I feel that Japanese fashion sensibilities, with their attention to detail and sizing, are very close to Italian sensibilities compared to other countries. I truly hope people will experience our products firsthand."
ARALDI 1930 regularly offers ready-made items at Strasburgo Tokyo Midtown.
